About Kelly Lynch, LCSW

I’m a Connecticut-based therapist who specializes in working with first responders, with a focus on EMS and Firefighters, along with anxious, high-achieving adults and couples who are struggling with communication.

I started Turning Point Wellness in 2014, and to say it's been a journey has been an understatement.

Over a decade later, a name change (I started out as Turning Point Behavioral Health), 5 location moves, and ultimately landing as fully virtual.... there've been so many changes. This little company has taken a path of evolution I never could have expected, much like we all evolve through our lifetimes.

People come to therapy under so many different circumstances, sometimes willingly, and sometimes begrudgingly. Sometimes people make the decision to start therapy because a family member, friend, or other loved one has asked them to, and sometimes it’s because they’ve finally come to the point of realizing or admitting that what they’ve tried to do to feel better…. just isn’t working.

No matter your circumstances, we’re gonna make it work.

As your therapist, I will not judge you. Everyone comes to therapy with a different set of issues and for different sets of reasons. We’ll work as a team to find the best, right answer for you. I’ll be with you every step of the way, to be your advocate, a teacher, a teammate, and a listener. Together, we’ll course-correct what's happened in your life, and get you back to living on your terms.

On being a first responder therapist, who was a first responder…

I've been an EMT since 2003, starting as a volunteer, and I was active in commercial EMS up until 2012. I’ve done the 8 hour shifts with 14 calls, heard the cries you can’t un-hear, worked homicides and suicides, done the 3am calls for the itchy mosquito bite and tooth pain that started 3 weeks ago, and held hands of strangers as they navigated their most frightening moments (and their most joyful moments too). And, like most first responders, I’ve certainly woken up hearing the tones drop in the middle of the night… at home in my own bed, off-duty.

Currently, I'm the only licensed therapist in Connecticut who has a background in commercial EMS, and I’ve been a licensed social worker for over 16 years. I specialize in PTSD in EMS personnel, firefighters, and other first responders.

In short - I get it. Public safety isn't just a job; it becomes a complete lifestyle, with its own community, set of expectations, and rules to play by. It influences your mindset, perspective, and the choices you make as you move through the world, along with so many other things. I know this, because I lived it. Because of my background in EMS, you don't have to explain 'the job' to me, and I'm able to relate to what the stress and anxiety feel like of having to constantly be 'on,' when all you want is a break. I was also married to a Paramedic, so I’m able to offer an additional unique perspective of what it is to be a first responder spouse.

How I Work

My work is centered around the core belief that all people are already their own best expert.

My job is - quite simply - to just show you that.

I also believe you don’t have to be ‘the strong one’ all the time - and even more than that, I believe it’s not your responsibility to constantly be strong on everyone else’s behalf. One of my teachers in the fitness world once said:

‘Leave two reps left in the tank, no matter what you’re doing. Those two reps are just for you… not anyone else.’

In sessions with me, that’s your time to let the rest of the world fall away so that you can just focus on yourself and what you need. In those moments, when everything else gets quiet and we slow down long enough to listen to the ways our instincts whisper to us…

That’s where your inner expertise will start to shine.

I’m here to tell you - if you come ready, willing, and able to look at, and talk about, the hard stuff in life, I know I can show you how literally anything is possible when you choose to do the work.

Take the next step. Head over to the Contact page, fill out the form, and I’ll be in touch within 24 hours to schedule your free 30-minute consultation call. These calls are an easy first step in getting to know each other. It's an opportunity for me to find out what's going on in your life, and a chance for you to ask any questions you may have about the process of therapy or what to expect from me.

I will be your ally, your confidant, your advocate, your guide in evolving, and your support, and I will do so relentlessly because I fully believe in you.

I only ask that you show up for yourself just as relentlessly.

You deserve nothing less.
